Chengdu is the largest city and capital of the Sichuan Province in China. Over the centuries the city has had many nicknames, all of which extolling this as one of the most abundant and heavenly areas of the world. The city has a reputation for being a place to relax and soak up the culture. For the nature lover and environmentalist a trip to the Panda Research Base is a must. This reserve is one of the most important places in the world for the endangered Giant Panda and other animals. Six miles from Chengdu this facility allows visitors to see these animals in as natural setting as you are likely to find anywhere. You are still able to get quite close up and feeding time is at half past nine in the morning. There is a Giant Panda Museum on site which aims to raise awareness.

For a step back in time visit Huanglongxi Ancient Town. With a history dating back more than 1700 years and set in some wonderfully undeveloped countryside, this ancient town can give visitors a real glimpse of the way things were in most places in China before the development of mega cities. Three ancient temples, stilt houses and 800 year old trees are among the sights to be seen here. It is claimed that this town has been used as a setting for about a hundred films so it is possible that parts may look familiar.
